- ➤ Thomas Garrison, 71, was fatally struck by an eastbound train near the 17200 block of Brookwood Road in Alexander early Thursday evening—officers arrived at 5:52 p.m. and attempted resuscitation before he died, with police ruling out foul play. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Dozens of new state laws will take effect Tuesday that affect public schools, corrections, higher education, Medicaid and alcohol delivery, including a ban on cellphones during school hours and the use of nitrogen gas for executions.
