  • On Saturday, hundreds of families visited Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock for its annual Back-to-School Health Fair—where children received immunizations, physicals, free haircuts, braids and dental screenings while every child got a backpack of school supplies provided with help from Chase Bank.  THV 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Thomas Garrison, 71, was fatally struck by an eastbound train near the 17200 block of Brookwood Road in Alexander early Thursday evening—officers arrived at 5:52 p.m. and attempted resuscitation before he died, with police ruling out foul play.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Little Rock Police arrested 20-year-old Al Fitzpatrick on August 1 in connection with the February 28 homicide at Westbridge Apartments and charged him with Capital Murder.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dozens of new state laws will take effect Tuesday that affect public schools, corrections, higher education, Medicaid and alcohol delivery, including a ban on cellphones during school hours and the use of nitrogen gas for executions. The measures require schools and state agencies to adjust their policies immediately—changes that follow the General Assembly’s session—ensuring that officials comply with the new mandates.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced it will completely shut down operations, which means local stations in Arkansas will soon need to find new funding and support—broadcasters are already reviewing their options.  THV 11
