COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nearly 50 Little Rock students will receive bicycles this holiday season from a partnership between Stop the Violence + Bank of America. The donation will boost safe transportation while supporting the community’s youth.  THV 11

  • Styx and Cheap Trick will perform at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock (Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7:30 p.m.) while tickets go on sale from Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m.  THV 11
  • Faith Woodard and Brooke Buckner delivered Arkansas's top stories on Monday, Dec. 15, plus their report featured a Chanukkah Unity Parade that celebrated local unity in Little Rock.  THV 11
  • Rabbi Pinchus Ciment lit a menorah at the corner of Bowman Road and Chenal Parkway on Monday, Dec. 15 to celebrate Hanukkah's second night. He sang, passed out coins and offered encouragement following a deadly attack on Jews at Bondi Beach in Australia.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The state Capitol is hosting a festive musical program this month as 180 school choirs from across the state fill its halls with Christmas carols and holiday tunes, inviting the community to enjoy the season's sounds.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Steve Nelson, a finalist for UAMS chancellor, addressed the university community today amid challenges posed by rising inflation, COVID-19, and funding issues & called the moment a Sputnik moment with potential to transform struggling medical schools.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Russell D. Harrington Jr., who led Baptist Health for 40 years, died Sunday at 81, the company said Monday. He guided the hospital system serving Little Rock residents with care.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • More than 140,000 Arkansans may face higher health insurance premiums as Affordable Care Act tax credits expire after Senate inaction. Experts say some families could see monthly costs jump from tens to hundreds starting in January (raising concerns about coverage affordability).  THV 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Anglers in Arkansas can apply for a 2026 alligator gar trophy tag by Dec. 31 to secure the chance to keep a fish longer than 36 inches. The 200 available tags will be drawn Jan. 2 and winners will get instructions by email (a $5 application fee is required).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas basketball won a 93-86 game against Texas Tech on Saturday in Dallas, as recapped by Ethan Westerman and Anthony Kristensen - the win sets up the team for upcoming challenges.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
