- ➤ In 1880, farmers in Springdale grew so many apples that many were left to rot until the railroad helped move the fruit—this change let them send barrels of apples far away. More than 60,000 acres in Benton and Washington counties began shipping apples as far as Canada—local farmers packed the fruit in long lines of wagons. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences received a five-year, $10.5 million federal grant to develop biomarkers for diseases including cancer, university officials said Tuesday. - ➤ New Arkansas head football coach Ryan Silverfield has begun recruiting top local high school players after his hiring on Sunday, with key commitments from athletes including Danny Beale III (signing today at 8:30 a.m.) that have brought ten of the top 20 prospects into the fold for the class of 2026.
