COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cooks that Care founder Nekia Kelley says food insecurity remains high in parts of Arkansas as the group now serves around 145 people each week including residents in homeless camps. The organization partners with local churches — offering hot meals every Sunday from 2-4 p.m.— and will expand its support with a new Little Rock location in 2026.  ABC 7
  • Local worship leader Andrew Laney played his custom guitar this weekend at the Evening of Wishes at the Venue at Westwind in North Little Rock — where thousands of dollars were raised for Make-A-Wish that supports critically ill children — and said the honor of giving back is priceless. Seventy-five children in Central Arkansas are still waiting for their wishes to be granted.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weird Al Yankovic will perform his 'Bigger & Weirder' tour show on June 20 at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock at 8 p.m.—tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Comedian Gary Owen will perform his 'No Hard Feelings' tour show on March 12 at the Robinson Center at 8 p.m., with tickets available at 9 a.m. Wednesday.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Legendary music group Earth, Wind & Fire will perform at Simmons Bank Arena on May 10, 2026—tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. The band, known for eight number one hits and over 100 million albums sold, has earned nine GRAMMY Awards and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  ABC 7
  • Little Rock Zoo has brought back GloWILD where glowing pathways and lantern-lit art turn the zoo into a wonderland with new features like iridescent elephants and a smoke-breathing dragon. Guests can visit on select weeknights and weekends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.—with last entry at 8:30 p.m.—as themed nights such as Santa Nights and Sensory Night add special touches until January.  ABC 7
  • Esse Purse Museum’s 'Henry and Nolan' exhibit features work by two female photographers who capture objects, moments and memories that shape American women’s story—this display continues the museum’s focus on celebrating personal history.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philander Smith University received a $19 million unrestricted gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott—its largest contribution in 147 years—and the donation will fund scholarships, technology upgrades and facility improvements as the school prepares for its 150th anniversary.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Little Rock Air Force Base 19th Airlift Wing is running a combat readiness exercise through November 20 that brings more personnel activity and loud exercise announcements—guarded as test communications and including a simulated active shooter lockdown lasting up to an hour. The exercise also changes operating hours at the Arnold Gate and adjusts schedules for the 19th Medical Group.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Little Rock mother Katie McClanahan survived being crushed by a tree on April 5 and returned to UAMS on Monday to thank first responders—she is now urging Arkansas to expand prehospital blood transfusions so more lives can be saved.  FOX 16
  • Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin expanded the One Pill Can Kill initiative at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville to teach students about fentanyl dangers, overdose recognition and Narcan use—this program began at Fayetteville last October with plans to reach more campuses.  FOX 16
