COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After the government reopened following a month-long shutdown, Arkansas Foodbank said it will continue distributing food to families until SNAP and WIC benefits and back pay are received—helping those hit by missed paychecks and rising utility costs. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Commerce confirmed that 62 employees from the Division of Services for the Blind were furloughed on Friday due to delays in the return of federal funding—this division supports over 2,000 clients annually with job training and other essential services. Remaining staff will continue accepting service requests while waiting for funding to be renewed.  FOX 16
  • City officials and the Attorney General are investigating unsafe conditions at Shorter College Gardens after it lost its Section 8 contract on November 1 — residents face hazards such as flooding and mold with few options to leave. The mayor said the city plans to move over 70 residents out in the next two weeks and then bring a vote to condemn the property.  ABC 7

  • A Redfin analysis from October 15 shows that home buyers and sellers in Little Rock face a slow market with high prices and low demand.   • In a Class 4A first-round playoff game last night, Mills quarterback Elijah Moody scored a 3-yard touchdown with no time remaining to give his team a 40-38 win over Helena-West Helena in Little Rock.   • Little Rock Christian Warriors beat Springdale Har-Ber Wildcats 44 to 34 Friday night in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs in Little Rock and moved to the quarterfinals where they will face Rogers next weekend.
