COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Claire Brown of Little Rock PowerWomen explained how local residents can give during the holiday season — she also outlined ways to support those in need throughout the year.  THV 11
  • Officials announced a partnership between the Central Arkansas Library System and Arkansas PBS to run the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive through Nov. 30. CALS locations (serving as drop-off points) will collect new or gently used winter clothing (such as sweaters, coats, hats, and gloves) to support unsheltered residents via local social service agencies.  FOX 16

  • Yafa Mediterranean Restaurant opened over the weekend on North Rodney Parham Road (located in west Little Rock) with a shawarma-focused menu (its main offering) and now serves customers in the area.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Comedian John Mulaney will perform at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at North Little Rock’s Simmons Bank Arena as part of his 'Mister Whatever' tour—tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Little Rock artist Aj Smith will have his silverpoint drawing 'American Dream Series' on view at the Studio Museum in Harlem's grand reopening on Saturday — when the museum unveils its new building and exhibitions — and he will attend the event with his wife.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Two productions of the musical 'Come From Away' will be staged in Little Rock in September 2026—marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Pianist Orion Weiss, one of two Artists of Distinction on the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra schedule, will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 this weekend at Robinson Center Performance Hall. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Critics pointed to a $479.99 gaming chair and small TikTok payments that made up less than 0.003% of $144M in education funds while officials say the LEARNS Act increased teacher pay — up to $50,000 — and improved oversight. New rules under Act 920 and actions by Governor Sanders will give schools more freedom to help students do better.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, dozens of tenants at Shorter College Gardens began a voucher intake process at Northbridge Housing Solutions—families brought folders and IDs to start their move from a deteriorating complex set for condemnation. Officials will meet with residents through noon today—aiming to complete processing by week’s end so families can relocate to safer housing across Pulaski County.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials at UAMS said its Fay W. Boozman College of Health is leading a $2.2M study to improve youth health and access to preventive services—like screenings, immunizations, and check-ups—for kids. Led by Professor Ann Chou, the research began in September and will run through August 2028—drawing on work by public health and family medicine experts to test community solutions.  FOX 16
  • A $32 million, 52,000-square-feet inpatient rehabilitation hospital is planned for the District at Midtown at 6301 District Ave to serve patients with brain injuries and strokes using 40 beds and a therapy gym. Cross Hospitals LLC announced the project will add 100 jobs + construction is set to begin in the coming months.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction began on a $25 million mixed-use development called the Arena District in downtown North Little Rock last Wednesday. The project will include an Aloft Hotel and the relocation of Willy D's Rock & Roll Piano Bar—steps that are expected to boost the local downtown area.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
