COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A 102-year-old World War II veteran, Staff Sergeant Jack Still, sang God Bless America at the Arkansas State Capitol during the Gold Star Families Memorial Ceremony yesterday—his performance honored families of service members who died in the line of duty. He was celebrated as one of the oldest veterans in Arkansas and his singing brought a sense of unity among those in attendance.  ABC 7
  • Officials with the Little Rock Compassion Center reported an increase in demand as more older residents seek food and a warm place amid the government shutdown and dropping temperatures—hundreds visit nightly and the center is running low on supplies while it asks for donations to cover essential costs like utilities.  FOX 16
  • Kroger is partnering with THV11 and other local organizations to help feed Little Rock families during this season of giving. The company will work with its partners to deliver food to those in need.  THV 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hadron, a Little Rock insurance carrier, said it will expand into the European market by next year to grow its portfolio and strengthen its competitive position. The company provides specialty coverage to underwriters and has partnerships with niche firms, with CEO Colin Johnson calling the move a natural next step.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • In Bauxite, fewer than 500 residents gathered as the first of 11 markers honoring Arkansas history and America's 250th independence anniversary was unveiled Tuesday morning outside the Bauxite Historical Museum, led by Saline County Judge Matt Brumley. The marker, painted blue + red trim, recognizes the town's role in World War II when families mined bauxite for American aircraft.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • On Tuesday, we celebrated the 111th birthday of civil rights activist Daisy Bates — a trailblazer who played a key role in desegregating American schools.  THV 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation’s Energy Efficiency Manager Mitch Ross shared tips for lowering energy bills this winter – he advised homeowners to insulate attics and crawl spaces, replace air filters, secure weak spots in their HVAC systems and keep thermostats steady.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Little Rock School District Board of Education will meet on Thursday, November 13 to consider converting Hall High School into a charter school as low student numbers prompted the change + funding is already secured and officials have held three planning meetings, with final approval set for November 20.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Agriculture issued an alert on Monday for poultry growers after the first confirmed bird flu case was reported in a backyard flock in Mississippi County — a reminder that the virus can quickly cause sudden death in poultry. The agency said growers should report sick or dead birds and follow strict biosecurity practices to prevent further spread.  FOX 16
  • Residents at Shorter College Gardens face ongoing uncertainty as HUD ended its contract due to unsafe conditions and city officials discovered unpaid utility bills—restoring essential services while Congressman French Hill and housing leaders work to relocate families. Northbridge staff will meet with residents today and tomorrow to help them complete new voucher applications and find landlords willing to accept the vouchers.  FOX 16

SPORTS NEWS

  • University of Arkansas men’s basketball coach John Calipari and his staff will sign at least two prospects during the early signing period that begins today and runs until November 19. JaShawn 'JJ' Andrews will sign at 11:15 a.m. today at Warrior Arena in Little Rock while Abdou Toure (who chose Arkansas over Connecticut and Providence in early October) will sign Saturday at 9 a.m.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Razorbacks will face the struggling LSU Tigers in Boot week after their bye week ended today. Arkansas, with a 2-7 record, ranks 21st in offense at 35.4 points and 123rd in defense while LSU, scoring 23.7 points with a 19th ranking in defense, is set to challenge them — setting up a tough game ahead.  ABC 7
  • Senior athlete Case Walls of South Side Bee Branch High School, known for his baseball and basketball skills, was diagnosed with testicular cancer three months ago—his teammates showed support by shaving their heads—inspiring community strength. He plans to continue his baseball career and will attend Carl Albert State College next year.  FOX 16
