  • John D. Harris, former CEO of Coulson Oil, said he was fired for exposing mismanagement in the company’s joint venture with Shell Oil Products and countersued to contest claims he misused company funds—his legal filings allege the dismissal was retaliatory.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • U-Haul launched its new repair shop at 7000 Innerplan Drive in North Little Rock on Monday—offering routine maintenance for regional fleets and creating at least 24 local jobs. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas Education Secretary Jacob Oliva announced Monday that new reimbursement rates for child care providers will be implemented following recommendations from an emergency work group. The rates will soon support local providers in the state.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The government shutdown continues to affect SNAP benefits today as contingency funds will cover only half of the usual deposits, prompting local farmers to donate over 2,000 pounds of produce while grocery stores face a drop in revenue of up to 30% with orders already placed for Thanksgiving—concerns remain that a prolonged shutdown may lead to a glut of fresh food.   • The CARTI Auxiliary’s Festival of Trees will begin on Thursday at the Statehouse Convention Center with the Sugar Plum Ball at 6 p.m., followed by the Festival of Fashion on Friday at 7 p.m. and Tux ‘n Trees on Saturday at 6 p.m.—proceeds will help reduce patient barriers to treatment by advancing CARTI’s trusted cancer care.  FOX 16

  • Freshman point guard Darius Acuff Jr.—the top performer in his debut—scored 22 points, with 20 in the first half, to help Arkansas beat Southern 109-77 on Monday. His early standout play set the tone as the team opened the season with an impressive rout.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • UALR women’s basketball routed Central Baptist 99-41 in their Monday night season opener at the Jack Stephens Center—Jordan Holman led with 24 points and eight rebounds. The team is 1-0 and will host Memphis on Friday before beginning a four-game road trip.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas women's basketball coach Kelsi Musick will debut tonight at Walton Arena as the Razorbacks face Louisiana Tech, the preseason favorite as voted by Conference USA coaches.
