COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families held its Friends of Children Annual Luncheon on Oct. 21 at the DoubleTree Hotel—children advocates praised two individuals for their efforts to support child welfare.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A Little Rock church hosted Arkansas Foodbank’s mobile food distribution to provide residents with essential food supplies. Retired contracting chief Sandra Easter—who served over 40 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and experienced several government shutdowns—attended the event.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Local Tavern in Bryant will give away 250 Classic Tavern burgers and fries from 6-9 p.m. on November 3rd—each person is allowed one free meal to help families facing tough times. The event will be held at 3429 Marketplace Ave and is part of the restaurant's ongoing efforts to support the community.  ABC 7
  • On Saturday, Alberta Rodgers celebrated her 100th birthday at West Central Community Center with family, friends and city officials, honoring her long career as a nurse and community leader — she advised to be good and do good things for others.  FOX 16

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Murphy USA's board said that Mindy K. West, the chief operating officer, will be president on Jan. 1—replacing Andrew Clyde. Clyde will leave the board on Dec. 31 and serve as an advisor until Feb. 2027.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local blues artist Buddy Shute and his band The Procrastinators won the Fort Smith Riverfront Blues Challenge and will represent the Riverfront Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in January in Memphis — the band is set to perform as the featured act at the Nov. 16 Blues Jam at the Bakery District.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A Little Rock writer’s screenplay won the top prize at a film festival in Australia earlier this month — the honor highlights growing recognition for his work.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders will send $500K to six Arkansas food bank networks starting tomorrow as SNAP benefits freeze amid the shutdown — the funds will be divided equally among the networks. If the shutdown continues, she said additional weekly funds may be provided — the HelpArkansas webpage will guide Arkansans to local food assistance resources.  THV 11

  • The Arkansas Razorbacks lost to Mississippi State 38-35 in the final moments of the game—leaving them winless in SEC play.  THV 11
  • Tyler Cass and Nick Luttrell presented a detailed recap of Arkansas high school football Week 9—covering key plays and team performances across several matchups. Their review outlined how teams fared and set the stage for upcoming contests.  THV 11
