BUSINESS NEWS

  • Little Rock’s Knowledge Tree, a school supply store that served the community for 29 years, is closing near the end of November or early December because online shopping has grown quickly. The store is offering a 30% discount on remaining inventory (with discounts increasing as the closing date nears) while plans for its future remain uncertain.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 100-year-old rose window at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock was restored and put on display on Oct. 27 after more than 50 years in storage—now it shines brightly inside the church.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Little Rock’s Arkansas Repertory Theatre is hosting Holiday Radio, Live at The Rep—a radio-style Christmas show—Dec. 17-21 at the theater on Main St. The event features timeless tunes, playful stories and local voices with ticket prices of $45 for adults and $25 for students.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Prophet Larry O’Neal Walker, who frequently preached at JFK and McCain in North Little Rock, died on Aug. 26 and his family placed a sign at his regular spot—honoring his desire to share the gospel.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College added 298 new students to its second 8-week term beginning Oct. 13, which boosted fall enrollment by 9.7% from last year and marked a 22.6% increase since Fall 2023. Officials say the shorter term offers flexible scheduling for working adults (and nontraditional students).  FOX 16
  • Dr. M. Nicholas Farr (36) received the Young Alumni Award at UCA Homecoming as he celebrated his roles as a high school principal and choral director, marking his strong ties to the university. He plans to debut as a director at Carnegie Hall and continues to mentor students in his community.  THV 11
  • Lakeside High School's sports medicine program gives students practical training in athletic training and other medical careers. The program lets students earn school credit and start internships through Work-Based Learning — they learn injury prevention, treatment, and rehab under trainer Benjamin Lewis' guidance.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new nonprofit led by Ragan Sutterfield is hosting a discussion and film screening in Little Rock to present plans for an earth-friendly cemetery that avoids tall monuments and concrete vaults—designed to honor natural landscapes. The event will offer details on the conservation burial method and invite public input.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With the government shutdown still in effect, hundreds of thousands of Arkansans may soon lose SNAP benefits, prompting Gov. Sanders to allocate $500,000 to six food banks including the Arkansas Food Bank in Little Rock. The food bank expects 100,000 new clients and needs extra food support (about 12 truckloads) if funding remains frozen, so lawmakers are urged to end the shutdown.  THV 11
  • Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced last Friday that the city has relaunched the Little Rock Cares program to help families impacted by the federal SNAP shutdown. The program will collect tax-deductible donations to buy discounted grocery gift cards through Food Giant—which will be distributed by local food banks and school pantries.  ABC 7
