BUSINESS NEWS

  • Elopak—an international packaging manufacturer—announced Tuesday that it will invest another $30 million to add a third production line at its Port of Little Rock factory. The company said the move is aimed at boosting capacity to meet strong demand for its low-carbon cartons used for plant-based drinks and dairy.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Conveyor Technology—based in North Little Rock—announced its new electric drum motor TechRoll with built-in sensor technology at a Chicago conference and said production will begin in February. The motor monitors vibration, temperature, and current to help customers take action before faults develop.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Amazon closed its fulfillment center at the Port on Oct. 22 for failing to meet local building codes—2,000 employees received their scheduled shifts and customer orders were unaffected while the company plans to modify the building for a reopening on Nov. 8.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • FOX16 earned one Emmy award on October 25th in St. Charles, Missouri — the award went to the team for its Total Solar Eclipse: Arkansas 2024 coverage. The newsroom was nominated for seven awards while sister station KARK 4 News was nominated for five and received four — showing the strength of local news work.  FOX 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Childcare providers in Little Rock met Tuesday morning to propose a funding plan to the Department of Education that adjusts reimbursement rates and caps family co-payments in light of new November 1 rules which could force 40% of centers to close. The plan—using $28 million to offer about 8 weeks of support—is set to be reviewed on Thursday before a Saturday deadline.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Faith Woodard delivered Arkansas's nightly headlines on October 28 — her report warned that rising health insurance costs may burden many Arkansans. The report detailed concerns that future premium hikes could make coverage more expensive.  THV 11
  • On October 25, 26,500 pounds of medication were brought to 375 take back sites as 140 law enforcement agencies and community partners teamed up to safely dispose of unwanted prescriptions—an effort to prevent misuse and curb addiction. Officials said the event, held twice yearly since 2010, has helped safely destroy over 342 tons of medication in the past 15 years.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas Hogs lost against the Auburn Tigers after blowing an 11‐point lead at halftime — quarterback Taylen Green threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter that doomed the game. The loss raises serious questions about head coach Bobby Petrino's future as the season continues.  ABC 7
  • Arkansas basketball won a 99-75 exhibition game in Memphis on Monday and reporters Matt Jones and Ethan Westerman detailed the win—Sam Sklar previewed Mississippi State football’s upcoming season.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
