COMMUNITY NEWS

  • North Little Rock community centers are hosting free Halloween events for families over the coming days. North Heights will host a BOO! Ball for adults on Oct. 28 and a trunk-or-treat on Oct. 31 while Glenview, Sherman Park and Rose City offer themed activities—attendees can enjoy games, treats and fun.  FOX 16
  • Friendly Chapel held its nearly four-decade fish fry Friday where hundreds gathered to honor the late Pastor Paul Holderfield Jr. and served over 3,500 meals to local groups—continuing a beloved community tradition.  FOX 16
  • The Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will host Operation Appreciation Pre-Thanksgiving Food Giveaway on November 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 906 Broadway in Little Rock, where free food items will be given on a first-come, first-served basis (supplies are limited).  FOX 16

CRIME NEWS

  • Angela Stephens is grieving her 21-year-old son, Zachary Moore, who died last month in a state care facility in Warren after being restrained and given a chemical injection in an incident ruled a homicide — officials placed eleven employees on leave as they gather more details while his family seeks accountability.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Kroger began distributing $5000 worth of gift cards to the Arkansas Food Bank starting with unpaid government workers amid the ongoing shutdown. The move comes as the Arkansas Department of Human Services warned that starting November 1, the SNAP system may delay purchases and affect over 240,000 benefit recipients—a measure to support families in need.  THV 11
  • A federal court issued a temporary restraining order today to stop Lakeside School District No. 9 from displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms and libraries — the ruling follows earlier orders in other districts and holds that the displays violate the First Amendment — prompting swift removal actions.  ABC 7

  • A mother grieving after her son died in a care facility in Arkansas is using his story to urge changes in facility practices—she hopes that better oversight will prevent future losses.  THV 11
