COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cliff the pit bull, rescued a year ago when firefighters rappelled down a 40-foot bluff in Emerald Park, reunited with the North Little Rock Fire Department this week as he visited on the fire engine that saved him. Adopted by Barbara Sadler, he has since gained 30 pounds and now lives a healthy life at home—reminding rescuers of the lasting impact of their work.  FOX 16
  • Pokéween & Trick or Treat returns to Little Rock Embassy Suites on October 25 and 26 with over 100 vendors offering comic books, collectibles, food trucks, live music, raffle giveaways & VIP access. General admission is $5 and kids under 12 may enter with a paying adult.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District shows that commercial tonnage on the Arkansas River fell by about 6% in September versus last year—port leaders say the decrease is due to environmental factors and an uncertain economy.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stephanie Williams — an elementary music teacher from Mountain View — was named the 2026 Arkansas Teacher of the Year on Tuesday. Her award comes with $14,000 from the Walton Family Foundation and a one-year role starting July 1 to promote teaching and serve on the State Board of Education.  THV 11
  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the Arkansas Teacher of the Year on Tuesday morning in Benton when she honored Stephanie Williams— a music teacher at Mountain View Elementary School— with a $14,000 reward presented by her and Education secretary Jacob Oliva.  FOX 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rock Region Metro reduced service on several bus routes due to a shortage of drivers and rising fuel and labor costs—officials say the changes have affected nearly two million trips a year. The agency will hold a hiring event on November 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 901 Maple Street in North Little Rock to help restore full operations.  THV 11
  • Eighty-six chaplains have been certified to support first responders with spiritual and practical help after completing a 40 hour training course run by the Department of Public Safety, the Division on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, and the State Police. Certified chaplains may soon begin outreach — the DPS has also announced plans to train 100 peer-to-peer law enforcement officers to further improve support.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials with ADH & its partners will host public events during National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week from Oct. 19 to 25 to help parents reduce lead exposure in children. Three events in Little Rock will include the Employee Health Fair on Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Big Boo!seum Bash on Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Vestido Rojo on Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. & officials stress that only licensed professionals should handle lead abatement.  FOX 16

  • Kelli Finglass—Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders director with family ties to Arkansas—appeared yesterday at the Marriott for the Little Rock Touchdown Club luncheon. She discussed her work on the new Netflix show and recalled her childhood visits for family reunions in the state.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • PGA Tour star Brandt Snedeker watched Vanderbilt defeat LSU last Saturday in Nashville and led a junior golf clinic at Pleasant Valley Country Club on Monday—he will compete in the Bank of Utah Championship and aims for his first PGA Tour win since 2018.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
