CULTURE NEWS

  • A concert held Saturday at Greater Second Baptist Church (on Geyer Springs Road) honored surviving members of the gospel group Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters in Little Rock. The group (formed in the 1950s and once Grammy-nominated for 'Amazing Grace') has inspired the music scene for over fifty years.  FOX 16

  • Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson served as the keynote speaker at the 20th Anniversary John H. Johnson Museum Tribute Dinner on Oct. 4 at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock — current and former state legislators were honored at the event presented by the Friends of John H.   • Dr. Issam 'Sam' Makhoul built his medical career from Lattakia, Syria—through Paris and Hershey—until he joined Little Rock as CARTI’s director of medical research. He works to improve access to comprehensive cancer care for Arkansans.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Building permits for projects valued at $75,000 or more have been issued in Little Rock—covering both commercial developments like a $252,000 project at 5320 S. Shackleford Road and residential works such as a $507,000 project at 162 Hickory Creek Circle. SPORTS NEWS

  • Michael Cataldo, one of the youngest tournament directors at 29, now leads the Simmons Bank Championship at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock where 54 top golfers will play 54 holes from Friday through Sunday with the top 36 advancing to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix—extra events like the Caddie Shootout and junior golf clinic add to the excitement.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden was honored at halftime on Saturday when his No. 5 jersey was unveiled at Reynolds Razorback Stadium—his family in attendance as he expressed gratitude for those who shaped his career.
