- ➤ Pastor Paul Holderfield Jr.—a beloved leader at Friday Chapel Church of Nazarene known for his outreach with the homeless—died overnight and is survived by his wife and four children. ABC 7
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A truck collision on Highway 84 near Social Hill killed a 160-pound mountain lion around 10 p.m. on October 8—Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said this rare incident is the first confirmed wild mountain lion death since February 2024. ABC 7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Since 2021, artists have used M2 Gallery to create installations for the annual EXPerience show. This year’s exhibit EXP4 opened Sept. 5—and will run until Oct. 18. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in Arkansas may soon see lower gas prices as AAA reported the state average dropped to $2.70 per gallon today — a decrease from last week — due to falling fuel demand and the switch to winter-grade fuel. Prices are expected to drop further in the coming weeks. FOX 16
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Little Rock is set to improve B. Finley Vinson Plaza on West Markham Street by adding green space, seating and live entertainment areas. Construction begins Monday and will finish in the spring — the second phase follows recent upgrades with a new canopy, LED lighting and a redesigned fountain. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ office defended its plan to build a 3,000-bed prison on 815 acres north of Charleston — saying it is the best option to ease overcrowding — after Franklin County Sheriff Johnny Crocker criticized the chosen site and its cost in a widely viewed social media video.
