- ➤ Fire deaths in Arkansas reached 50 in 2025—breaking the record of 47 set in 2016—as many incidents happened in homes without a working smoke detector. FOX 16

- ➤ Little Rock's new restaurant LR Chicken and Pancakes is run by two brothers who serve breakfast, lunch and live entertainment from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily — they work with the city's re-entry program to hire workers seeking a second chance. ABC 7

- ➤ After a brief break, the International Greek Food Festival returns this weekend in Little Rock—reviving over 40 years of tradition and culture for local residents. THV 11

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas has partnered with Google to offer free scholarships for AI courses and career certificates to adults through the state commerce website—courses made to build digital skills—and Governor Sanders announced the project at the unveiling of a new data center in West Memphis. THV 11
- ➤ Central Arkansas parent Calli Turner said her daughter's daycare, Explorer’s Academy in Little Rock, will close in January due to federal funding cuts for the Child Care Development Block Grant—raising concerns about more centers shutting and tougher access to affordable care. The change comes after Turner received a closure notice that could force families to compete for remaining quality childcare. FOX 16
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials said nearly 120 Arkansas National Guardsmen and four UH-72 helicopters will depart Oct. 5 for a 13-month federal deployment to Texas—supporting U.S. Customs and Border Patrol along the southern border. They will replace current units and are set to return in November. FOX 16

- ➤ Arkansas defensive end Quincy Rhodes was added to the Bednarik Award watch list on Thursday after posting five sacks, 19 tackles, and seven tackles for loss.
