COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Darby's Warrior Support opened its new Patriot Outpost on Wednesday in rural White County to offer special operations veterans organized hunting, fishing, and shooting experiences at a modern lodge and multiple ranges. The project cost over $2 million and was built without debt to give veterans a safe place to share their unique experiences.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Claire Brown from the Little Rock Power Women group stressed the importance of amplifying women's voices — she said that every woman deserves a seat at the table.  THV 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • After a two-year break, the International Greek Food Festival will return Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Napa Valley Drive; the festival will feature traditional Greek food, live music, dance performances and new menu items like a chicken shawarma plate paired with Arkansas-grown turmeric rice while proceeds benefit local charities.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Lukas Nelson and Laci Kaye Booth will perform live music at 8:00 p.m. Friday at The Hall located at 721 W. Ninth St., with tickets costing $47.10—$64.87.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Senate’s failure to extend funding has delayed USDA payments for Arkansas farmers during the harvest season—farmers were expecting about $2.4 million in Agriculture Risk Coverage and $29 million in Price Loss Coverage payments, with an extra $10 million in Emergency Commodity Assistance also postponed until the shutdown ends. The delay comes as the government shutdown disrupts essential cash flow at a critical time for crop sales.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • On October 1, 2025, Hayden Balgavy and Karen Fuller presented Arkansas's morning headlines and reported that the government shutdown is in effect and impacting state operations. Officials plan to address service delays as the shutdown continues.  THV 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas Department of Health announced that during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, eligible women aged 40 to 64 can receive free breast cancer screenings and women aged 21 to 64 may get free cervical screenings through the BreastCare program. The program partners with local providers (offering screenings, follow-up care and education) to help reduce breast cancer deaths among women.  FOX 16

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ben Mubenga, a 3-star offensive lineman, reopened his recruitment for Arkansas football Wednesday—following coach Sam Pittman's firing Sunday and the dismissal of two coordinators Monday. He chose Arkansas on June 28 over offers from Georgia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina State to join the state's 17 pledges for the 2026 class.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
