- ➤ Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock is launching a six-week civic engagement series led by Pastor Earnest Thomas. The program will help community members learn how to take part in local issues – a new chance for active involvement. THV 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Steven Schnell, former director at The Science Zone in Casper, Wyoming, will become the new director of the Museum of Discovery on Oct. 15, replacing interim director Michael Nauman. He brings over a decade of science center leadership and has visited the museum many times—his local ties and experience are expected to boost community engagement. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Childcare providers in Arkansas are concerned about a loss of funding as the state’s voucher program will pay every center the same amount starting in October—some fear that centers previously receiving more will now struggle to meet costs. THV 11

- ➤ On Tuesday, the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Steven C. Baker after he was placed on paid administrative leave due to disputes over a new indemnification clause needed for federal grants—David Tipton will serve as interim executive director. - ➤ Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin will launch the One Pill Can Kill initiative at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff today to warn about opioid overdoses. Griffin will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. — offering hands-on training for student leaders to detect overdose signs and administer naloxone. FOX 16
- ➤ Rock Region Metro changed bus routes on July 28 and riders have struggled with canceled and late buses—making it hard to get home or attend appointments. Erica Henderson and others told board officials that redlined buses have caused ongoing delays while Metro said reduced funding is why the changes happened. ABC 7
- ➤ A legislative panel backed a $131.9 million request for state funds to build a new State Crime Laboratory in North Little Rock. The Legislative Council will vote on the plan Friday—if approved, the new building will replace a 40-year-old lab and offer more than double its current space. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Residents in southwest Little Rock filed a petition on September 17 calling for the removal of Ward 2 director Ken Richardson from the city board—petitioners claim he failed to meet his duties after taking a leave in May for life-threatening surgeries while still receiving payments. FOX 16

- ➤ Officials announced at Monday's media day at Pleasant Valley Country Club that the 2025 Simmons Bank Championship will be held from Oct. 24-26 and serve as the second playoff event for the Charles Schwab Cup with six of the top 10 players confirmed. - ➤ The Arkansas football team will play home games against Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, and Missouri in 2026, and they will visit Texas A&M, Texas, Auburn, and Vanderbilt for road games—nonconference games include North Alabama on Sept. 5, Tulsa on Sept. 26, and Utah on Sept. 12, while SEC game dates will be announced in December.
