COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials at Crater of Diamonds State Park said that a family from Cookson, Oklahoma discovered a 2.79-carat brown diamond on Sept. 13 while visiting for a nephew's birthday and searching near the Prospector Trailhead. The gem — named the William Diamond in honor of the nephew — is the third-largest diamond found at the park this year.  FOX 16
  • North Little Rock officials announced an outreach fair and amnesty program for the unsheltered community that will be held on October 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 120 Riverfront Drive—people with nonviolent misdemeanor warrants can clear them without fear of arrest.  FOX 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Legislative Council subcommittee endorsed a contract for up to $55,000 with the Georgia Center for Opportunity Inc. and the Bureau of Legislative Research—designed to gather details on public assistance and workforce development programs—yesterday. The move sets the stage for further review of state program recommendations.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In 2025, 63 million-dollar homes have sold in Little Rock with total sales of $74.6 million and buyers are seeking move-in-ready houses—young people favor updated homes in areas like Chenal Valley, Pleasant Valley and Pulaski Heights.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Arkansas football coach Sam Pittman said outside noise is affecting the team after close losses and that his team will work on tackling, running, and ball care ahead of their game against Notre Dame at Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m.—he stressed that winning will help change public opinion. Pittman urged the players to improve their play to overcome the pressure from critics.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas football officials announced that LSU, Texas and Missouri will remain on the team’s schedule as permanent opponents for a four-year cycle when the new nine-game schedule is released at 6 p.m. today—Coach Pittman said that geography and history guided the choice while updates on player health are pending.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Tim Brown, wearing the gold jacket from his 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction, appeared at the Little Rock Touchdown Club meeting Monday at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Little Rock to discuss Notre Dame’s upcoming game with Arkansas, his long NFL career, and his spiritual journey — as the current commissioner of The Arena League with the Arkansas Diamonds, he stressed the role of education and faith in his success.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
