ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ An official from the Arkansas Trucking Association explained that since June 25, 279 drivers were taken out of service under Act 604's stricter rules, but oversupply means freight companies in Little Rock will not face shortages. Steve Goode from the Arkansas Retailers Association said local retailers see no impact on hiring — the focus remains on making sure drivers are qualified and safe. THV 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SONIC donated $30,000 to Little Rock public schools to fund classroom projects as part of the Dr. Pepper SONIC Games — with $10,000 provided to each of three local locations that ranked among the top 50. Two of the recognized teams will travel to Nashville in October to compete for the top SONIC in America. THV 11
- ➤ Officials with the Pulaski County Special School District reported a bus driver shortage that is straining student transportation services—district officials say they are working to recruit new drivers. THV 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas has launched a new initiative called one state, one vote to check for duplicate voter registrations and potential fraud—states like Alabama and Texas will help verify voter records. Secretary of State Cole Jester said registering in more than one state is illegal and the program will help keep voter rolls accurate during elections. FOX 16
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The FDA recalled several cinnamon brands sold nationwide—found to have elevated lead levels. The recall includes Super Brand sold at Asian Supermarket in Little Rock—consumers are advised to throw away the product immediately. FOX 16
- ➤ UAMS hosted its annual heart recovery reunion where former patients celebrated life and shared stories about beating major heart issues—Tiffani McGee explained her experience and doctors urged everyone to keep up with their health—while reminding us that heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide.
