COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials with the Junior League of Little Rock announced on Wednesday that the 30-year Holiday House tradition has ended—shifting focus to year-round volunteer opportunities, educational workshops and community partnerships that develop women's leadership and improve neighborhoods.  FOX 16
  • The 14th annual Downtown Food Truck Festival is moving to a new green space created by the 30 Crossing Project and will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday—this venue is located at the future park site under the newly reconstructed 30 Crossing Bridge.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • North Little Rock's William F. Laman Library remains closed today as crews work to cool smoldering roofing tar that filled the second floor with smoke Tuesday evening—officials say the work will continue for safety. Air conditioning has been turned off to keep smoke from spreading and scrubbers are in place to clear the air.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Laman Library in North Little Rock closed Wednesday after a small fire broke out Tuesday night during roof repairs — officials worked to clear smoke that affected air quality.  FOX 16

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arkansas PBS received 11 regional Emmy Award nominations from the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its original local programs — including documentaries, sports stories and cultural features, with winners to be announced Oct. 25.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • North Little Rock singer-songwriter Adam Faucett’s new album Variations on the Reaper will be released Friday — it has 10 songs that showcase a haunting Southern Gothic sound.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Little Rock is tied for the worst year-round particle pollution in the Southeast, the American Lung Association said in its State of the Air report — the report shows that levels of harmful ozone smog and tiny pollutants have increased since last year. People with lung issues may need to take extra care during the hottest, driest months.  ABC 7

FINANCE NEWS

  • John O., a long-time lottery player from Faulkner County, won $250K on Sept. 11 in a Play It Again Second-Chance drawing using a non-winning $50 or $100 ticket and claimed his prize that day. He said he will use his winnings to help his daughter with college and values that lottery sales support scholarships for Arkansas students — a reward for his persistent play.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Phone services at Little Rock City Hall have been down since yesterday after a network outage was announced at about 9 a.m.—officials said that 911 calls remain available. Residents should email their non-emergency concerns for further assistance.  ABC 7
  • Officials with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration warned taxpayers today about a text scam that asks for sensitive details such as Social Security numbers and banking data—DFA stressed it never sends texts requesting this information and urged residents to warn family and friends.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas Rural Health Partnership, a nonprofit that began in Southeast Arkansas, is expanding its network statewide to boost local healthcare access. The group now unites over 30 organizations—including rural hospitals, clinics, and EMS providers—to work together on emergency, primary, and behavioral care.  ABC 7
  • Arkansas Children's Hospital received a $1.5 million donation from Hank’s Fine Furniture on Wednesday to support its ongoing expansion project— the hospital will name a bone marrow transplant suite in honor of Hank Browne during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.   • Yelp reviewers ranked the best cheeseburgers in central Arkansas for National Cheeseburger Day — Franks in North Little Rock and The Root Cafe in Little Rock led the list of top ten eateries based on local opinions. The rankings help locals choose where to celebrate today.  FOX 16
