ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Little Rock Police are investigating a fatal train accident on Monday at about 3:30 p.m. near 6400 Geyer Springs Road when a trespasser was struck and killed by a Union Pacific train—officials have not released the victim’s identity and the investigation is ongoing.  THV 11

CRIME NEWS

  • AG Tim Griffin announced that on Aug. 26 a 53-year-old Little Rock woman pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud and received a six-month suspended sentence, a $150 fine, and $297 in restitution for billing for care not provided when the patient was in hospital — and that on Sept. 4, a 24-year-old from Pine Bluff was arrested for allegedly billing for services not rendered.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Officials from Little Rock, Pulaski County, and the Regional Chamber announced Tuesday that the region reached a record 380,038 employed, with the July jobs report showing an increase of 4,255 workers and nearly 40,000 more than in 2020. Leaders said the milestone reflects strong local economic momentum—highlighting the collaboration of public and private sectors to drive growth.  FOX 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College reported a 7.7% rise in fall enrollment with 4,825 students registered for its 8-week and 16-week terms that began Aug. 18. The college noted strong gains in programs such as HVAC, Aviation Maintenance, and Medical Coding—data from the 11th day of classes will be sent to the state division soon.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hopebridge is closing its autism therapy centers in Bentonville, Hot Springs and Little Rock—effective October 3—after a new law now requires ABA services to be licensed as childcare facilities. Many local families worry this change may leave children with autism with fewer therapy options.  THV 11
  • Michael Garriott shared his family's struggle after his wife was diagnosed with the fatal brain disease CJD last October and placed in hospice, while UAMS neurologist Dr. Anthony Davis explained on the KARKFOX16+ exclusive show Make It Make Sense how medical science is working to contain the illness.  FOX 16
