- ➤ A person was injured Sunday after being hit by a train on the 1100 block of North Street near the train trellis that crosses the river — Union Pacific stopped the train and responders took the victim to a hospital. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Alexander man named Kenny Earl Brown, 18, was arrested after a high-speed police chase where he sped over 135 mph, ran red lights, struck a sign, and fled on foot near the Baseline Rd. and Interstate 30 intersection—he now faces nearly a dozen charges including two felonies. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Miss Arkansas 2025 Kennedy Holland — a Greenwood native and UCA student — was named one of the top 11 semi-finalists in the Miss America Pageant after she earned top talent honors with her rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water. FOX 16
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ During the week of August 31—September 6, many Arkansas farmers asked the federal government for emergency help as a weak farm economy nearly forced long-time farms to close while hundreds joined Labor Day protests against federal and local policies. Other events included a fatal boating accident on Lake Hamilton that killed three, a mobile home fire in Conway that raised staffing concerns, a Sherwood daycare closing for health violations, a near-miss lottery jackpot in Louisiana, and a missing man later found dead after a car crash. - ➤ At most federal court hearings, a probation officer from the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services is present—working alongside a judge, court reporter, courtroom deputy, security officer, and attorneys—to support judges and aid defendants. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Opponents of the plan to build a new 3,000-bed prison in Franklin County will speak at a formal hearing Tuesday at 1 p.m. in committee Room A, MAC, at the Capitol—where a citizen complaint backed by 1,258 signatures alleges poor site selection and misused taxpayer funds. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Reverend Barkley Thompson shared his cancer story after being diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 48 and undergoing a radical prostatectomy in April 2021, crediting early screening with saving his life. He now urges men statewide to get tested as the foundation doubles its screening events — hosting events at St. Mark Baptist Church and the Conway Fire Department — to boost prostate cancer awareness in Arkansas.
