CRIME NEWS

  • Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division identified skeletal remains found on January 13 near U.S. Highway 79 in Lee County as Charles Howard Wallace using DNA analysis by Othram Labs—this breakthrough solved a 48-year-old cold case.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Poet Carolyn Guinzio—author of eight poetry collections and published in The New Yorker, Poetry and The Nation—was named the winner of the 2025 Porter Fund Literary Prize.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders joined FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and other leaders in a Little Rock press conference on Friday to announce a plan that allows prisons to jam contraband cellphones to stop criminal activity. The FCC will vote on the rule in September and officials said they support the measure after noting that thousands of unauthorized phones in prisons have raised public safety concerns — prompting further action.  THV 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Dr. Susan Emmett from UAMS joined Rex Nelson’s Southern Fried Podcast to explain hearing loss dangers and new treatments for rural Arkansans—especially for students facing barriers in learning. She noted that nearly one in four people suffer from hearing loss and that new telehealth tools will speed up care delivery.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The historic football game between Arkansas and Arkansas State is happening today as the teams face off for the first time on the field—local fans show strong support for their teams.
