- ➤ Claire’s, a fashion and jewelry chain for teens, announced nearly 300 store closures as it navigates Chapter 11 bankruptcy—235 Claire’s and 56 Icing outlets nationwide will shut, including several in Arkansas. The move follows the recent $104 million sale of its North American business, leaving 830 stores open for now. FOX 16
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 63-year-old woman was hospitalized after eight pit bulls attacked her on August 24 near the 1600 block of Gum Street in North Little Rock—neighbors stopped the attack while officials investigate the dogs’ history and potential criminal charges. FOX 16
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Little Rock School Board is debating whether to close Hall-West School of Innovation due to very low enrollment with fewer than 15 ninth graders—officials also are weighing a plan to repurpose the building as an education campus before Pinnacle View High School opens in 2027. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central Arkansas Water crews are repairing a 12-inch AC main pipe that burst on Thursday morning at the intersection of Asher and University — they are working to restore safe water service. THV 11
- ➤ Governor Sanders announced that state employees will end regular remote work starting Oct. 1 and follow new office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—she added that flexible schedules and an expanded Infant at Work policy will allow workers to bring infants to work with supervisor approval. FOX 16
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas Children's Northwest Hospital received a $500,000 donation from the Schmieding Foundation to support an expansion that began in 2024 and will add new operating rooms, procedure rooms, and hospital beds — with the hospital naming its upgraded pharmacy in honor of the gift to improve access to care for children. This project is part of a larger effort to enhance patient outcomes across the region. THV 11
