- ➤ North Little Rock School District has opened a pantry to provide food and essential items to students and families facing food insecurity—serving 30 to 100 families a week and operating 24/7. School officials say the pantry helps address the needs of over 5% of students who are homeless and supports families in getting necessary supplies. THV 11
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday night, a Star City man died when his homemade ultralight aircraft crashed into a tree after stalling during a turn shortly after takeoff at Star City Municipal Airport; the 53-year-old pilot was taken to a hospital in Pine Bluff and the FAA along with the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputy, Steven Eldridge, was fired after inmate Terry Craig died in his cell on August 8 at Monroe County Detention Center—investigators arrested five people on charges including first-degree murder and battery for alleged violent criminal group activity. ABC 7
- ➤ Former deputy Jefferey Miller of Little Rock and Bryant resident Ameshia Burt were arrested on Thursday and inmate Lance Noid of Little Rock was arrested on Wednesday for bringing contraband into Pulaski County jail—sheriff's office officials said the arrests followed an investigation into jail security. - ➤ Arkansas State Police and U.S. marshals arrested Kemarie Johnson, a 19-year-old from Pine Bluff, on Thursday evening in connection with the April shooting at Conway park that killed two and wounded nine — he faces charges of capital murder, attempted murder and terrorism. - ➤ Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin filed a notice of appeal on Friday against a federal judge’s ruling that blocked a state law requiring public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments—he said the appeal is needed to restore the law’s enforcement. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
