EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Officials announced that Mini Main inside the Bobby L. Roberts Library will close on August 30 so patrons can pick up holds before the Main Library reopens on September 20. The Roberts Library’s first floor will be renovated into a museum-style space that includes a welcome center and used book sale area—while the upper floors will continue regular operations. FOX 16
- ➤ The Windgate Foundation awarded nearly $1 million to Baptist Health College Little Rock to upgrade medical simulation tools and build a Simulation Center—12 rooms that mimic clinical settings, while demolition for renovations of over 120,000 square feet will begin before the end of the year as classes continue. - ➤ Auditor Dennis Milligan explained that the new DataMatch program will send surprise checks to eligible Arkansans — the system will review information to trigger payments soon. THV 11
- ➤ Officials with the Department of Veterans Affairs said the Little Rock VA medical facility will soon undergo upgrades that include replacing piping, making structural repairs, fixing storm damage and updating water and electrical systems as part of an $800M plan—intended to improve care for Veterans, families and caregivers. VA Secretary Doug Collins said the improvements will lead to better services. FOX 16
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The FDA is investigating reports that frozen shrimp sold at Walmart in Arkansas may be contaminated with cesium 137—a substance from nuclear fission—and has recalled three Great Value products pending further testing. The agency is working with Customs to stop any new shipments of the contaminated shrimp from reaching store shelves. FOX 16
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Little Rock's iconic dive bar Town Pump will reopen this Thursday under new management by Barnaby Group with a fresh twist on its menu while keeping its gritty charm. The bar at 1321 Rebsamen Park Road will serve burgers, wings and cold beer from 11 a.m. to midnight Tuesday through Sunday and will host events like karaoke, trivia and bingo. THV 11
