BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Town Pump, a local dive bar at 1321 Rebsamen Park Road, will reopen Thursday morning after renovations by new owners Barnaby Group. The bar will offer an updated menu with classic items like burgers and wings—along with special events such as karaoke nights and Amaro Hour.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has appointed Springdale resident Aaron Abbott to the Arkansas State Board of Education, where he will serve until June 30, 2032, replacing Kathy McFetridge. Abbott, who works as an account manager & consultant and holds a doctorate from the University of Arkansas, said he is honored by his appointment and plans to support education reforms.  FOX 16
  • Little Rock Central High School today opened its first new academic building since 1927 at a ribbon cutting ceremony, unveiling a modern science wing that spans 67,000 square feet with labs for chemistry, biology, physics, robotics, and horticulture plus a 200 seat lecture hall and rooftop classroom. The expansion ends the use of portable classrooms that served for 25 years and adds to a 58,000 square foot field house opened in October.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders appointed Aaron Abbott, a 40-year-old education consultant from Springdale with roles at Halda and John Brown University, to the state Board of Education to help implement the Arkansas LEARNS Act—his term expires on June 30.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Razorback coach Sam Pittman visited the Little Rock Touchdown Club boosters today and previewed the upcoming season for the Hogs — outlining team strategies and expectations.  THV 11
  • High school football teams are using a device called the wet bulb—measuring heat, sun, wind, and humidity—to decide when to move practice indoors and protect players during extreme heat. Maumelle High School coach Brian Maupin said his team will shift indoors if temperatures rise over 90 and will begin their season on August 21.  THV 11
