- ➤ A New York woman spent three weeks at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro and found a 2.3-carat gem she named the Fox-Ballou Diamond—this is the third-largest diamond found at the park so far this year. FOX 16
- ➤ Peanut Butter is a big, fluffy dog with a sweet heart who is ready to join a new family. Little Rock Animal Village is asking for help to find him a forever home today. THV 11
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ North Little Rock police arrested 26-year-old Robert Bussey on August 5 in connection to the July 28 shooting on Maple Street that left 28-year-old Chris Young dead, and he is now held at Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility with a $100,000 bond. THV 11
- ➤ Hot Springs police arrested 25-year-old Austin Lee Warren for second-degree murder in connection with the Mason Street homicide on August 3 after a standoff in Tulia, Texas—40-year-old Desray Guess from Benton was also taken for hindering arrest. ABC 7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas has a new law that bans phones during school hours starting with the 2025-2026 school year and requires students to lock away their phones during class. Some schools already tested the rule in pilot programs and teachers say the change has improved learning and reduced conflicts. THV 11
- ➤ U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon will visit Arkansas next week as part of the Returning Education to the States tour, where she will meet students, teachers and school leaders, according to a Friday release from the U.S. Department of Education.
