COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A memorial service for 15-year-old Makayla Fortner was held Saturday at Bryant Soccer Field in Alexander—where family, friends, and classmates gathered to honor her memory after she died in June following a dog attack. Her godmother said she hopes the loss will prompt legislation to help others in need—while classmates recalled her kindness in classrooms and on the field.  KARK
  • A Little Rock church held its annual Back to School Bash on Saturday to distribute free school supplies and offer community resources such as health checks, food pantry access and housing information. Pastor Marquis Cooper — a leading organizer — said church volunteers partnered with groups like the Salvation Army, CHI St Vincent, Entergy and Central Arkansas Water to support residents and plan to make the event annual.  THV 11
  • Otter Creek Community Church held a community outreach event on Saturday morning at Otter Creek—providing free school supplies, clothes, health checks, and food to local families. Pastor Marquis Cooper said the church will also plan a big Thanksgiving giveaway to help the community.  FOX 16
  • Hundreds of families met at River Market on July 27 for the first Back to School Community Block Party, where local businesses and Chosen Law Group gave out free school supplies, haircuts, food, and more to help kids get ready for school. CRIME NEWS

  • While 18-year-old Tynisha Hudson headed to work at Applebee's in 1997, she was unaware that her sister had been murdered the night before in a double homicide — a case that has gone cold for 28 years as her family remains hopeful investigators will find answers.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Four suspects - Jamie Williams, Mersade Palmer, Kyland Rogers, and David Brooks Jr. - have been charged with capital murder in connection with the Dupree Park homicide on July 17, with arrests on July 18 and self-surrenders on July 26 aided by US Marshals.  ABC 7
