ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday morning, Arkansas State Police identified three victims from a series of accidents along I-30 westbound between Hope and Fulton in Hempstead County — a hit-and-run crash that killed ARDOT contractor Jonathan Gary Williams and a multi-vehicle collision that claimed two more lives while a separate two-car crash injured drivers, with the suspect still at large.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • Police identified 19-year-old Tarell Rice Jr.—killed early Thursday on Morris Drive—and said 42-year-old Tina Williams was injured and taken to a hospital, while no suspect has yet been named.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Little Rock police arrested 64-year-old Mark Murphy Monday night in the Mabelvale area after he allegedly shot a man in the left arm when the victim opened his door—authorities said the victim had a no-contact order and Murphy now faces charges of felony first-degree battery and terroristic act.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Water levels on the Arkansas River returned to normal after months of high water and fast flows slowed both commercial and recreational use — local port officials reported that commercial tonnage dropped nearly 20% compared with last year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission honored several officers in a ceremony where David Foret received Game Warden of the Year for citing poachers and a fisherman, Lt. Adam Baker earned the Meritorious Service Award for his extra rescue efforts, and Cpl. Bernie Soliz was recognized with the Lifesaving Award and Boating Game Warden of the Year for his boating work – K-9 Ruby, along with Brady Smith, Cpl. Robby King, and Sgt. Jeff Dalton, also earned awards for fair and brave service. These awards recognized the officers for enforcing hunting laws, saving lives, and contributing to public safety.  FOX 16
  • Delphone Hubbard— a Memphis native with 30 years of experience in public service— was appointed as Little Rock's new city manager and shared his vision for the city.  THV 11
  • A Muslim inmate who calls himself a jailhouse lawyer asked for a transfer from state prison to a federal facility in Bruceton Mills as part of a settlement with the Department of Corrections—officials said the move was not made in retaliation. Serving a life sentence for violent crimes, Gregory Holt now contests the transfer and seeks a hearing in federal court in Little Rock between July 24 and Aug. 1 while claiming that his health has suffered from the change.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
