  • On Sunday in North Little Rock, paramedic Stewart Uzzell and his team rescued a raccoon that had its head stuck in a soup can—using special shears to free the animal before it ran off.  FOX 16

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new 2025 study by Zutobi.com shows that Arkansas ranks fifth among states for teen traffic deaths—recording about 39.44 fatalities per 100,000 teen drivers. Capt. Brad Lann of the state police said speeding, distracted driving and following too closely are key factors and ARDOT will launch the Street Smart program on August 15th to teach middle school students safe driving behaviors.  THV 11

  • Las Mamalonas Mexican Bar and Grill opened Tuesday in the former Copeland's of New Orleans space at 2602A Shackleford Road in Shackleford Crossings — the restaurant now serves Mexican food to local diners.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State officials reported that the Arkansas Department of Education and Agriculture launched a school food pantry toolkit today to help schools set up food pantries and ease food insecurity. The toolkit—developed through Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Faith-Based Initiative office—offers step-by-step instructions and resources to support student success.  KARK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Little Rock city leaders are preparing to review an action plan that will use $20 million in HUD disaster recovery funds to help rebuild homes, businesses, and infrastructure damaged during the March 31st tornado outbreak. Housing Director Kevin Howard said the board will evaluate the plan at a Tuesday night meeting (detailing eligible spending for housing repairs, mitigation, and economic development) before submitting it to the federal agency.  FOX 16
