COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, a tree was planted at Bullock Temple CME Church to mark the 20th anniversary of the African Women’s Health Project International — a symbol of growth and hope for future generations. Founder Princess Dr. Moradeun Ogunlana said the planting honors the mission to improve women’s health and economic empowerment both here and worldwide.  FOX 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fifteen educators were named as finalists for the 2026 Arkansas Teacher of the Year by the Department of Education’s elementary and secondary division. The state semifinalists will be chosen on July 28 at the Governor’s Mansion and each finalist will receive a certificate and $1,000 from the Walton Family Foundation — the statewide winner will be announced in the fall and may compete for National Teacher of the Year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas DHS said today that its Summer EBT program now supports 326,000 children by giving each eligible child $120 on a prepaid card—up from 294,000 last year to help prevent summer hunger. A Medicaid direct match system identified more qualified children, and families not automatically enrolled can apply by August 25.  THV 11
  • Overnight lane closures will begin Monday night, July 14 and last until Friday afternoon, July 25 on I-530, I-30, and I-440 for bridge maintenance. Weather permitting, lanes will close daily from 8 p.m. until 3 p.m. the next day—drivers must follow detour routes with designated exits.  ABC 7
  • Governor Sanders approved the extension of the Arkansas National Guard's active-duty mission in Texas to help with flood search-and-rescue efforts. The mission now includes four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, 22 Guardsmen and two liaison officers and will continue through July 19.  ABC 7

  • A Hot Springs family is seeking a life-saving liver transplant for their son—who suffers from a rare liver condition. They hope the transplant will give him a chance to recover.  THV 11
