  • Special Olympics Arkansas opened its new headquarters in North Little Rock on Monday. The 4,600 square-foot facility will boost new internships & expand its athlete leadership program as participants and Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony.  FOX 16

CRIME NEWS

  • Little Rock police on Monday identified 62-year-old Frederick Williams, fatally shot Friday night near his home at 15 Karon Court, and arrested Al-Malik Diamond, 40, and Anna Rodgers, 46 (both of Sherwood) on capital murder charges.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The Arkansas Department of Education has launched ChildcareAR.com — a new website that lets parents search for childcare providers by city, county or zip code and by star rating, hours of operation or accepted ages. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the site empowers parents to find safe and reliable care for their children.  KARK

  • Arkansas State Police will launch the 'Speeding Slows You Down' campaign from July 9 to 31 to reduce speeding and lower traffic fatalities in Little Rock — local and state agencies will work with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue citations during the effort.  KARK
  • Pulaski County’s Crisis Stabilization Unit—vital for mental health care—is temporarily closed after UAMS withdrew management due to staffing shortages. Judge Barry Hyde said proposals for a new provider are due this week and services are expected to resume in 30–60 days.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • A UAMS study finds that proper nutrition can lower infant and maternal deaths in Arkansas as only 35% participate in WIC, compared to 51% nationally; researchers say adding familiar foods and better outreach can help overcome barriers like language and transportation challenges. The study urges focused strategies to improve health outcomes for mothers and children using nutrition programs+ education.  KARK
  • A UAMS study shows that nutrition programs like WIC can help reduce infant and maternal deaths in Arkansas, yet WIC participation stands only at 35% compared to the 51% national average.
