  • Paul Whannel founded the Arkansas Queer Men’s Social Club in Little Rock to offer a safe space for queer men to connect without alcohol—he started the club in August and it hosted a painting class on June 18 while now raising donations to secure a physical community center.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Arkansas Department of Corrections and Board of Corrections officials will brief lawmakers on Grant Hardin’s prison escape during a legislative subcommittee meeting at 3 p.m. on July 10+he escaped from the North Central Unit on May 25, was recaptured on June 6, and a guard error allowed his exit.  FOX 16

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In June, three Arkansans won big lottery prizes—Edward Gunter in Hot Springs won $200,000 playing Psychedelic Payout while Jennifer O. from Washington County and Greg J. from Little Rock each won $50,000 on $50,000 Frenzy tickets. A Natural State Jackpot ticket sold for Tuesday night's drawing in Van Buren remains unclaimed with a $90,000 prize and the winner has 180 days to claim it.  THV 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials with the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment and the Division of Environmental Quality issued a Code Orange Air Quality Advisory for central Arkansas on Thursday afternoon because forecasted ozone levels exceeded safe limits—health officials urged children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues to limit outdoor activity.  FOX 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas lawmakers and the Arkansas Farm Bureau supported the US House’s passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act today, saying the bill will cut taxes, secure borders, and boost national defense—while the Arkansas Food Bank warned that nearly $200 million in SNAP cuts could threaten food access for many families.  KARK

  • Baptist Health Community Outreach is offering free summer cooking classes for Arkansans to learn how to cook healthy, low-cost meals with assistance from registered dietitian Samantha Stadter. The classes will be held monthly on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 10117 Kanis Road and will cover topics like nutrition benefits and ingredient selection.  KARK
