  • Runners and walkers gathered at War Memorial Park for a fun run aimed at raising money for Little Rock Parks and Recreation — the event underscored community support for local park projects.  THV 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Little Rock Police arrested 19-year-old Jacarree Bass on Tuesday in connection with a 2023 shooting at an apartment complex on 3 Richsmith Lane that left a 16-year-old dead and a 15-year-old injured, and Bass faces charges of capital murder & first-degree battery & committing a terroristic act as the investigation continues.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A new FBI report shows the Fordyce 'Mad Butcher' shooting was the deadliest active shooter incident in 2024 as it hurt 14 people (four killed and 10 wounded) during a supermarket attack on June 21, and suspect Travis Posey was arrested and charged though he pleaded not guilty.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • North Little Rock’s Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum celebrates its 20th anniversary this week after opening a year after the USS Razorback arrived on the Arkansas River—this historic vessel played a role in World War II events like the Tokyo Bay surrender and the Pearl Harbor attack. The museum will celebrate until June 8 with exhibits that highlight its contribution to preserving history.  ABC 7
  • Plaza Frida at 4001 W. 65th Street will host the First Annual Frida Family Carnival next weekend from June 12 to 15, offering rides, games and food with festivities from 4 to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday — admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for children and fathers enter free on Sunday while discounted Ride-All-Day wristbands must be purchased online before June 11.  FOX 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Sanders announced today a new pilot program to get students off screens and outdoors at Witt Stephens Jr. Nature Center in Little Rock—30 schools statewide will participate to build skills for outdoor careers. Officials will review the one-year program before planning a statewide launch.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Little Rock Water Reclamation Commission approved a five-year plan that will raise the typical residential bill by 42%—increasing monthly costs from $41.73 to $59.22 by 2030. The proposal now goes to city directors for approval in August or September after planned community meetings and discussions with commercial and industrial users.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Two new rules aimed at improving maternal health outcomes in Arkansas cleared a legislative panel on Wednesday; one rule would give pregnant women temporary Medicaid coverage automatically while the other changes how providers are paid for prenatal and postpartum care. The proposals—expected to cost over $40 million with federal funds—will move next to the Legislative Council's Administrative Rules Subcommittee as lawmakers question their impact on rural birthing hospitals.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
