Good morning, Little Rock. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 26th of May.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At Little Rock National Cemetery today, the Rally Point Non-Profit Council gathered veterans, Gold Star families, and community members to plant hundreds of flags as a tribute to those who sacrificed for freedom—each flag symbolizing a life honored. Executive director Jeff Watts said the ceremony reminds us of the true meaning of Memorial Day and the non-profit plans to continue this yearly tradition rain or shine. ABC 7
- ➤ The Centre at University Park at 6401 W. 12th St. is set to undergo a $4 million renovation to become a senior-focused recreation center with a new therapeutic pool—fitted with jets, an exercise room, and four lighted pickleball courts. The project will expand the 14,000-square-foot center by about 4,500 square feet using federal aid from the American Rescue Plan Act and follows a board resolution approved last Tuesday. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On May 2, the NEA canceled grants for several Arkansas arts groups that had planned projects using the funds, forcing Bentonville's Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation to scale back from two concerts to one. Many organizations are appealing the decision or seeking new funding (this action resulted from a shift in federal priorities). Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kathryn Roley reported that veterans placed flags at cemeteries during Memorial Day weekend as part of Arkansas top news stories and honored fallen service members. The ceremonies marked a key tribute event reported on May 25. THV 11

- ➤ Trainer Matt Parrott runs a master class that teaches safe lawn care, saying that stretching and functional exercise can prevent back injuries from mowing and trimming. The course features a move—called the Lawn Mower Start—that Paul Fajer from the Little Rock Athletic Club demonstrates, a technique—meant to ready the body for bending and lifting—that may help lower injury risks. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ University of Arkansas researchers are partnering with Arisa Health to launch the CATCH My Breath program this fall, teaching roughly 200 pre-teens and teenagers across nine Central Arkansas counties about vaping risks. The two-year project is funded with a $405,702 grant from Attorney General Tim Griffin’s office — the program uses Qualified Behavioral Health Providers to deliver four-session courses in schools and community groups.
