COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new community assistance grant program will provide millions in funding to eligible cities and community nonprofits to fight food insecurity, unemployment, and other challenges across Arkansas. Governor Sanders is seeking legislative approval for a $15 million allocation while applications are open from May 19 through July 31—awards will be announced early fall.  ABC 7
  • Little Rock will host its 4th annual Juneteenth in Da Rock 5K walk/run on June 21 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center—participants will run past historic African American landmarks and then enjoy a family-friendly street festival on West 9th Street with live music, local vendors and a health and wellness village.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • North Little Rock police identified 26-year-old Keshawn Franklin as the victim of a shooting homicide Saturday night at a residence near Camp Robinson Road and Oakview Drive—detectives have spoken with a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Organizers are planning the 16th annual Juneteenth in Da Rock festival to celebrate freedom and community at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock. The celebration will include a 5K walk/run along historic sites and a family-friendly street festival with live music—including performances by Grammy winners Elle Varner and October London—and a Health and Wellness Village inside the museum.  KARK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday at The Venue at Westwind, 175 seniors from Hall-West, Central, Southwest Magnet, and Parkview high schools signed to attend college and start careers in areas like computer science, marketing, finance, music education, and law enforcement—demonstrating their plans for the future.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders mobilized two Arkansas National Guardsmen on Monday to help deliver water in Grant County after lightning damaged Sheridan's treatment plant and prompted boil orders. The Guardsmen will use a 400-gallon water buffalo at a Tractor Supply store at 1695 Rock Street to refill supplies for about 3,500 homes.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Protect AR Rights Coalition launched a campaign Monday morning at the state capitol—proposing a constitutional amendment that guarantees Arkansans can use citizen-led ballot initiatives. The Attorney General now has 10 days to review the amendment, which may appear on the 2026 ballot if approved.  ABC 7
