  • The Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will host Operation Appreciation Food Giveaway on May 27 at 11 a.m. at its office on 906 Broadway—an effort to provide nutritious meals to families facing food insecurity during the summer when schools are closed.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • North Little Rock Police are searching for missing 17-year-old Ca'Layah Freeman who was last seen at 3 a.m. on May 11 — she is described as a Black female with brown hair, brown eyes, standing 5'9" and weighing 134 lbs, and anyone with information is urged to call the police.  THV 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sarah Jane Rhoads, Ph.D., DNP, an Arkansas native and former UAMS faculty member, will serve as dean of UAMS College of Nursing beginning September 1—she replaces Patricia Cowan, who retired after a 40-year career in nursing.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas State Police are teaming up with law enforcement agencies from Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma to enforce Move Over laws today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. as drivers who ignore the rules may face fines, jail time or loss of their driver’s license — the move is designed to protect road workers and emergency responders.  ABC 7
  • The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission will launch Operation Appreciation food giveaway on May 27 at 11 a.m.—the program, held at 906 Broadway in Little Rock, will address food insecurity during the summer. Community members should arrive early since supplies will be given on a first-come, first-served basis with volunteers there to assist.  KARK

  • At the Don Owens Sports Complex in Conway, the Arkansas Department of Health is offering free measles, mumps & rubella vaccines to help curb a local outbreak that has seen four of six cases in Faulkner County, and officials encourage under-vaccinated residents and young children to get protected.  KARK
  • After a severe three-month battle with flu complications — including pneumonia and heart issues — teen Elsie is now home following treatment at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She is in physical therapy and will need lifelong cardiologist follow-up as she continues her recovery.  ABC 7
