CULTURE NEWS

  • John Middleton Clayton (born Oct. 1840 near Chester, Pa.) was labeled a carpetbagger during Arkansas Reconstruction and served in the Union Army as one of 10 children.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parkview High School announced that head volleyball coach Kendahl Davenport will not return for the 2026-27 school year after an investigation found lapses in supervision and social media practices with students. A job posting for her replacement has been listed by the district.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Jacksonville-North Pulaski School District, the Department of Defense and Little Rock Air Force Base are set to relaunch the STARBASE Arkansas STEM program in August — it will give students hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math at the base.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Governor Asa Hutchinson—writing his autobiography for University of Arkansas Press—plans to share insights from his time in office and key moments from his political career.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Port of Little Rock purchased 42 acres in March for $1.2 million & plans to build an $8.5 million four-lane boulevard from Jones Street to Pratt Remmell Road near Holiday Inn. The port seeks a federal grant with a 20% match and expects construction to start next year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The Razorbacks enter the SEC Tournament at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky and will face Mississippi State today at 1 p.m. — coach Courtney Deifel said her team is battle-tested after a tough regular season schedule.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
