EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Central Arkansas Library System received proposals from three search firms to help select its new executive director + the process is expected to guide a smoother leadership transition. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ The University of Central Arkansas School of Nursing earned accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare for its Nabholz Center. The 20,000 sqft simulation center trains nursing students with high-tech mannequins (the first collegiate center in the state to get this honor) and completes a decade-long effort. ABC 7
- ➤ Tennis fans are petitioning after the University ended its men’s and women’s programs on Friday. North Little Rock High senior Caroline Jones said the decision crushed her dream of playing for her local school (over 2,500 signatures have been collected so far). ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State legislators approved $176.5 million in grant funding on Tuesday, Apr. 28 to expand high-speed internet under the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment Program. Nearly 23,000 homes and businesses will soon receive service with Berryville-based Hometown Internet, LLC (which received the largest share to serve over 16,500 locations). Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Arkansas gymnastics coach Jordyn Wieber stepped down after leading the Razorbacks to the NCAA Championships, and her husband Chris Brooks was named head coach at a 3 p.m. Tuesday press conference.
