COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Plans are underway for a new Ronald McDonald House (Baptist Health Medical Center) that will serve families near the hospital. It is expected to open later this year, with final construction details still pending.  THV 11

  • Rising oil prices linked to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are raising diesel costs and adding unpredictability for Arkansas truckers. The trucking association says the volatile fuel market is challenging daily operations & cash flow.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State public universities reached a record high as fall 2021 students improved their four-year graduation rate by 4% over last year; officials say the milestone shows ongoing efforts to boost student success.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The district board heard concerns from students, coaches, and parents that the softball team's field at Interstate Park is poorer and farther than the new baseball turf on campus. The district attorney toured the field and said a plan and feasibility study will be proposed at the next board meeting.  THV 11

  • Southern Renewable Energy Association launched Powering Arkansas (a statewide effort to provide clear renewable energy facts and foster local discussions on affordability) to debunk misinformation and empower Arkansans. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sgt. Russell O. Chitwood’s remains—misidentified until DNA testing in March—were returned home for burial near his late brother.   • Rolly Hoyt and Jurnee Taylor reported Arkansas's top news on April 24, highlighting Little Rock's move toward employing A.I. technology in local programs (a step that may boost service efficiency). The report emphasized the progress in adopting this new tech initiative.  THV 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas athletics will discontinue men's and women's tennis programs after the spring season due to budget concerns - a difficult decision reached after thorough discussion - and will reallocate funds to support other sports.   • Arkansas women’s basketball got a new addition when transfer forward Ayianna Johnson announced her commitment on social media this week.
