BUSINESS NEWS

  • Walmart announced that five Arkansas stores will be remodeled with improvements such as bigger signage, expanded online pickup and upgraded pharmacy spaces for shoppers and associates. In the past five years, the company spent over $736.5 million on upgrades while raising wages, awarding bonuses to nearly 20,000 hourly workers and donating millions to support local suppliers and food banks—steps aimed at strengthening community ties.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Arkansas Cinema Society and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival announced an exclusive screening of Sally will be held on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theater of the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts — a film that explores the hidden life of Sally Ride — with doors opening at 6 p.m. and tickets costing $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.  THV 11

ECONOMY NEWS

  • General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and the U.S. Army will lead a new 155mm artillery production facility in Camden. The $110 million project will create 185 jobs and produce 50,000 artillery explosives per month — boosting the region's aerospace and defense industry.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sanders signed three bills that will invest $575 million in water infrastructure across Arkansas — the laws let more entities join public water systems, provide $25 million a year from grant earnings for water and sewer facilities, and set a ballot initiative for 2026 offering an extra $500 million in funding.  FOX 16
  • Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law on Monday that reconstituted the state library board—removing all current members and allowing her to appoint seven new members with staggered terms.  KARK
  • Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders granted $468,838 in outdoor recreation funds to four cities—Denning: $73,897, Keo: $114,192, Ozan: $121,200, and Sulpher Springs: $159,550—as part of the revived Great Strides program using money from the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Fund. Communities will use the award to build park trails that encourage health and fitness.  KARK
  • Arkansas residents are urged to obtain their Real ID before May 7 to avoid travel delays from extra identity checks at airports. Nearly 1.5 million people still need their Real ID and TSA recommends arriving early for flights—two hours before domestic and three hours before international flights.  ABC 7
  • Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. that he was fighting fraud statewide — his announcement targeted scams like utility imposter scams, toll road scams and callers posing as law enforcement.  KARK
