ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An EF-1 tornado with winds of 105 mph touched down in northern Pulaski County on Sunday near Highway 107 at Fourmile Hill and moved northeast for 11.31 miles causing tree and roof damage before dissipating in southwest White County near Opal—crews closed Highway 5 near Cabot as they responded and no injuries were reported.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • In the wake of a mass shooting in Conway that left two dead and nine injured—Arkansas Stop the Violence is urging a reward for tips that could help identify the suspects and assist victims through available reparations programs.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office confirmed a radar-detected tornado touched down near the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 319 today — officials are checking the area for damage.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Incentive Act that gives a 30% tax credit for equipment used in making sustainable aviation fuel—if a new facility in Arkansas costs over $2 billion, employs at least 75 full-time workers, and uses 80% of the energy to produce fuel. The law requires construction to begin before December 31, 2027.  KARK
  • Three new laws—House Bill 1931, Senate Bill 485 and Senate Bill 537—signed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders aim to cut the high rate of re-offending by starting inmate help on day one, setting better parole rules and giving work credits to help reduce prison time. They were signed on April 16 during the final work week of the 95th General Assembly.  KARK
  • Doug Schoenrock has been named the 20th director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission—he will start in May taking over from Austin Booth, who stepped down last November—and he brings many years of experience in wildlife conservation and business from his work with Ducks Unlimited.  ABC 7
  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law that gives a 30% tax credit to sustainable aviation fuel facilities that produce jet fuel from wood biomass in Arkansas. The law requires facilities to cost over $2 billion, employ 75 full-time workers, use at least 80% of their energy for fuel production, and begin construction before Dec. 31, 2027 — a project certified by the state Economic Development Commission.  FOX 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Arkansas Department of Health confirmed a third measles case in the state. Officials said anyone who was at places like Arkansas Pediatrics of Conway, Arkansas Children's Emergency Department, Baptist Health Urgent Care, Saline Memorial Hospital, and Benton Family Clinic between April 6 and April 9 should call a provider if symptoms develop.  ABC 7
