COMMUNITY NEWS

  • West Little Rock held the opening day of its new farmers' market on April 18, 2026 (it will operate every Saturday until October). Locals now have a new spot to access fresh produce.  THV 11
  • In January, blind musician Andrew Price lost his instruments in a house fire and received help from local music store owner Brandon Toney & country duo Cliff and Susan Prowse, giving him a fresh start with his music.  THV 11
  • Executive director Aaron Reddin stepped down from day-to-day leadership at The Van due to health challenges and will remain on the board while Parker Reid was selected to lead the nonprofit serving the unhoused community. Reddin said ongoing treatments have affected his ability to be present.  ABC 7
  • The Tour of Homes returns to North Little Rock as it spotlights Argenta Historic District and showcases historic preservation & community revitalization. The event, expected to draw 600 to 1,000 visitors this weekend, features stops at The Sanctuary at Argenta and the E.O. Manees House.  ABC 7

  • Walton Arts Center in Little Rock will host Mamma Mia from April 21 to 26. Juliette Ojeda, who first saw the musical on a cruise when she was 13, recalls the magic of live theater as the show returns to captivate local audiences.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Mary Medearis, a North Little Rock native, wrote 'Big Doc’s Girl' and saw her works adapted for television and stage, marking decades of literary success. Her passion for music and local history still influences our culture (per the Encyclopedia of Arkansas).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Capitol Zoning District Commission unanimously denied a Little Caesars proposal for the SoMa District after local residents raised concerns about safety and preserving the area’s walkability. Little Caesars may reapply next year if it revises its plan.  THV 11
  • Little Rock officials announced a citywide weekend curfew for anyone under 18 on April 18 to improve public safety, and the new measure will be enforced on upcoming weekends.  THV 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • A woman’s experience at a local hospital shows that Black mothers in Arkansas face more than twice the risk of dying during childbirth than white mothers. Health experts call for improved access to culturally sensitive care and greater support in underserved areas (a change many say is long overdue).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • UAMS is now offering the FDA-approved SAINT neuromodulation system for people whose depression has not improved with medicine and talk therapy. Patients start with a referral and then go through 10-minute sessions held 10 times a day for five days at the UAMS clinic.  ABC 7
