BUSINESS NEWS

  • Painted Tree Boutiques closed all of its stores Tuesday (leaving business owners scrambling) after abruptly shutting down its vendor mall operations across the country. Vendors are now seeking alternative locations to continue their business.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local arts are buzzing this week with live music and art exhibits. The River City Men’s Chorus will perform FREEDOM concerts later at St. James United Methodist Church, while Camerata Little Rock plays Beyond Borders Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral; galleries and ESSE Museum host additional shows.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Little Rock Housing Authority closed a $5.1M refinancing deal to save 241 families at Madison Heights (securing funds for repairs and new unit openings) after months of financial uncertainty.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • The state Department of Health reported no new flu-related deaths last week and noted that flu activity remained minimal for the third week. Twenty residents were hospitalized for the flu recently and 81 deaths have been recorded this season.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas basketball has signed transfer Jeremiah Wilkinson (averaging 17.4 points per game at Georgia) to boost the team’s scoring as the season nears.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas and Georgia will face off at 7 p.m. Thursday at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville, with starting pitchers Hunter Dietz for the Razorbacks and Joey Volchko for the Bulldogs. The teams are set for a key SEC showdown as they open the series.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas softball hitting coach DJ Gasso previewed the Razorbacks matchup against No. 1 Oklahoma during a podcast with host Christina Long today.   • St. John's transfer guard Beautiful Waheed committed to Arkansas women's basketball on Wednesday; the Milwaukee native, who averaged 9.1 points plus 3.8 rebounds for the Red Storm last season, becomes the second transfer joining the Razorbacks with California guard Grace McCallop.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
