ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Sherwood home caught fire Sunday evening on Rocky Creek Drive killing one person and severely damaging the property, with first responders arriving just before 7 p.m.—firefighters controlled the blaze by 10 p.m. as investigators review the cause.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • An accident on I-40 eastbound happened 1.5 miles north of Maumelle near the 140.3-mile marker before Exit 142 at 5:13 a.m. and affected the right and center lanes and the right shoulder, with officials saying it is unclear if anyone was hurt.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five Little Rock high school seniors and five teachers have been selected to receive the 2025 Stephens Award, which recognizes outstanding students and educators by offering scholarships (each student receives a $5,000 award) and accolades.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pulaski County announced today that it completed the first phase of the Southwest Trail—the initial four miles of the planned 65-mile path linking Little Rock to Hot Springs. County officials said the trail, designed for biking, walking, and running, will boost the local economy and improve community health.  ABC 7
  • The IRS announced that Arkansas taxpayers in disaster-affected areas have received an automatic tax filing extension until Nov. 3 after severe storms hit the state — affected individuals should call the IRS if the relief is not applied.  FOX 16
  • After heavy storms hit the Razorback State, the IRS extended Arkansas’ tax deadline to Nov. 3—residents in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina must file by May 1. Taxpayers do not need to take extra steps if they receive automatic filing relief from the IRS.  KARK
  • Applications for Arkansas’s Summer EBT program, which offers $120 in pre-loaded food benefits per child, are now open and the program will resume in May.  THV 11
  • Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Tuesday that she submitted a waiver to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ban soft drinks and candy bought with SNAP benefits — the waiver also asks to add rotisserie chicken to eligible items while opening a 30-day public comment period.  THV 11
