Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 13th of April.
Good morning, Little Rock.
A week ago, a tree fell on Little Rock resident Marquinn Missouri's home during heavy wind and rain—blocking both front doors and trapping his family until the fire department cut an exit, leaving his son with an injured arm and his wife with head and shoulder marks as they now stay in a motel while planning to relocate.
On April 11, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office rescued over 30 animals from extreme neglect at the 4700 block of Rose Lane — the animals are now cared for at Second Chance Rescue Ranch while officials urge residents to adopt, foster, or donate.
Culinary students Alyssa Frisby and Kenneth Knowlton — led by Chef Donnie Ferneau — won the Arkansas Diamond Chef contest on April 3 at UA-Pulaski Tech Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute.
The sold-out event was co-chaired by Leah and Chef Payne Harding.
Parents and student-athletes in North Little Rock went door-to-door (talking with neighbors) to get ready for the upcoming millage vote (which may adjust local tax rates).
Building permits have been issued for big projects in the Little Rock metro area that cost at least $75,000.
Companies like Crossland Construction, Halie Smitley, and Jacob White Construction received permits with values ranging from ($92,165 to $2,280,168).
North Little Rock residents have gone door-to-door ahead of a special election on May 13 that will decide on raising a millage rate to fund a new middle school+indoor sports complex, renovations to a historic building and better learning environments.
Luke King said the campaign will use a $20.8 million grant for these projects if the millage passes, and voters must register by April 15.
