  • Today, the Roller Chenal Funeral Home reopened after a tornado destroyed it two years ago—bringing back funeral services to local families.  THV 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Little Rock woman was rescued from her Normandy Road home after a tree fell during severe weather and was taken to a local hospital — the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management reported 13 injuries and 1 fatality statewide — as emergency teams continue to monitor storm conditions.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LISA Academy will host its 11th annual STEM Festival at Fayetteville’s Arkansas Union on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & Bryant High School senior Madison Williams received the first Arkansas Outstanding Military Scholar Award on April 1. The Reform Alliance will hold a School Choice tour in Pine Bluff on April 8 & in Little Rock on April 9, the state is accepting applications for a free K-12 special education teacher apprenticeship through May 16, and Crystal Bridges Museum honored Bentonville students with Gold Key medals at an April 6 art showcase.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, Dave Parker from the Arkansas Department of Transportation said that 78 highways were closed statewide due to flooding even though the severe storms had ended. He added that water on Interstate 57 and parts of Interstate 440 has slowed traffic—drivers in the Jacksonville area should plan to leave a little earlier as heavy rain is now creating large potholes.  ABC 7
  • A severe thunderstorm hit Little Rock Saturday — downing trees and power lines that blocked roads and forced a rescue of a resident trapped by a fallen tree. Public Works and Fire Department crews worked to clear debris and secure hazards as cleanup efforts continued.  ABC 7

  • Arkansas state lawmakers are working over the next week and a half to finalize budgets, funding and bills before they recess by close of business on April 16—They are racing to complete key actions in the regular session before the break.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
